Liverpool Football Club’s signing of Alexander Isak for about £125mn helped push spending on players by clubs in England’s Premier League during the summer transfer window to a record of at least €3.5bn, far exceeding the amounts recorded in rival European leagues.
Liverpool, who won the Premier League in 2024-25, led the spending spree with an outlay of more than €480mn by the end of the window on Monday, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the football website, which compiles data on player signings.
It included the British record fee of about £125mn for Swedish striker Isak, who signed from Newcastle United. Liverpool also signed German playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of up to £116mn.
