One of Hong Kong's most sensational murder cases took a turn yesterday after the city's highest court ordered the retrial of Nancy Kissel, an American housewife jailed for life for murdering her banker husband by feeding him a spiked milkshake and clubbing him to death.
The Court of Final Appeal said it decided to quash the conviction of Ms Kissel, 45, because the jury in the original 2005 trial did not receive complete directions. An appeals court last year had dismissed Ms Kissel's appeal.
“Mrs Kissel killed Mr Kissel. That much is not in dispute. But was the killing certainly murder or might it have been in self- defence?” asked the court on Thursday, remanding Mrs Kissel into custody pending a bail application.
