Relations between Pyongyang and Kuala Lumpur look set to deteriorate further after Malaysian police probing Kim Jong Nam’s killing identified a North Korean diplomat based in the country as a suspect.
Wednesday’s revelation came as authorities acknowledged deploying special forces to the mortuary where Kim’s body was being held after an attempted break-in.
Mr Kim, half-brother of North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un, was killed at Kuala Lumpur international airport last Monday as he waited to board a flight to Macau. Two women wiped liquid on his face in an apparent poisoning.
