Google chief executive Sundar Pichai affirmed his company’s “responsibility” to make technology a “positive force” in people’s lives at the internet company’s annual developer conference, which is being held after a backlash against the biggest tech companies this year.
A week after Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook’s developer event with an admission of his company’s recent failures, Mr Pichai barely nodded to the growing concerns about the potential social, political and economic downside of mass technologies such as smartphones and social networks.
He made no mention of privacy or data security, issues that have been in the spotlight following the outcry over data harvesting on Facebook.
